The Last Dinosaurs @ Ding Dongs

The Last Dinosaurs

Due to soccer on Saturdays, work on Friday nights and a variety of other obstacles in the way it has limited my outgoingness this year but for the first time in about 4 months I trekked into the city on Friday night to watch The Last Dinosaurs play at Ding Dongs. I have heard the Queensland band on Triple J a number of times, but without the invite from Reg to join her and her friends I wouldn't have known they were playing. $5 only to get in and I was rocking out with a lively music set that I would have paid more for.

Ahh, it's good to be going out again. What's on next week people?

If you aren't familiar with them, check out their track Honolulu here

RIP Nujabes

Friday, March 19th, 2010

Seba Jun, aka Nujabes, has long been one of my favorite musical producers ever since I was first introduced to him through his breakthrough work in the anime Samurai Champloo. Ever since, Nujabes, has been a staple in my music library and I find opportunities still to introduce new people to his stylistic chillout beats. It seems not long ago I mentioned his fantastic involvement in Mellow Beats, Friends & Lovers that I wanted to share on this very website.

I'm devastated to learn of his death back in February in a fatal car crash. His talent will be sorely missed by thousands across the world, no less than in me.

He was 36 years old.

Here is something I wrote up on the memorial page of Hydeout Productions website

"To Nujabes,

Ever since the news of your death has been announced the world hasn't felt the same. I first heard your limitless talent many years ago like so many others in your work on Samurai Champloo. It seems funny that an animated cartoon was the catalyst for my ongoing fixation and obsession with your musical style.

I found every single oppurtunity I had to introduce friends and others to your music and every person who heard you said to me the same thing "Who is this? It's really good". It speaks volume of your style and talent that not one single person has a bad thing to say of you. I can't help but cry thinking of this and knowing that we'll never get to hear anything new from you

I try to remain composed, try to rationalise the feeling, try to explain to myself that each time I hear you now something new is felt, but the knot is still there in my throat. It's not the same feeling I once had. It's a feeling of immense sorrow and it brings me to tears when I'm forced to think of it.

It sounds selfish to say but part of me feels as if it left this world with you. And for someone I never met, it sounds even sillier, but that's how your music made me feel. Sadly, I believe that is the case for thousands others worldwide too.

But then, when I think deeper, I come to realise this... Nujabes, Thank you. Thank you for your inspiration that you now provide me. Every day of my life now feels a blessing and when I get to hear you it sets of a euphoria for life. A smile creeps across my face and I remember everything you meant to everyone and to me. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

Rest in Peace.
Peace and Love to everyone you meet.
