Cruising with JDMST

JDMST Meeting at Docklands

It's been a fair while between drinks for JDMST meets with the last one being a few months back. I haven't even had the chance to show off my new car to anyone from the modified scene. Mike (Sp33dy) took it upon himself to organise this one and it was by far the biggest turn out we've ever had!

A lot of people braved the arctic chill to come out and see some nice cars. The pick for me was a beautiful Series 8 RX-7 that showed up with a rather modified 350z and drift-style S15.

Mike had organised a cruise which a lot of people passed up on given the fact it was about 1 degree where we drove too. We ended up at landing strip near the airport watching the plans come in over head. I've never been there before but I think I've found a new spot to show out of town visitors. It was quite amazing and the sound was unbelievable!

Anyway, feel free to check out the rest of the pics here

The Show

The Chaos

I don't know anymore. Maybe I'm too old or something but what's the appeal of the Melbourne show? You pay $20 to get through the door so you can spend another $20 on a showbag filled with $5 worth of chocolate or whatever is jammed inside, or another $5 on a rigged carnival game to never win the stuffed dolls. All the while stifled for space and battling with obnoxious parents and their oversized prams jamming them through obviously too narrow spaces.

Whatever! I went anyway and had a pretty enjoyable time I suppose, although I am having trouble nailing down what was infact enjoyable about it. Let's put it down to this shall we... Spending the day with friends and getting out of the house. That's made today an enjoyable day.

Let me summaries my sentiments of why I think the Melbourne Show is a dead event and will never compare to my experience as a child in a quick story. We ventured into the main tent where you would expect to see all sorts of rare treats and market style food. We are greeted straight off with a huge crowd gathered around a stall.

Large crowd gathering!!

What might be so interesting you ask? Hard Candy making? Free samples of some delicious food? Even some b-grade celebrity doing a cameo?

No.

Sham-WOW!

Some guy doing a presentation on a Chamois. I am not kidding! The crowd was enthralled and hung off the salesmen word. Further adding to the desecration to my childhood traditions, Foxtel representatives were jumping down your throat asking if you had Foxtel right next to the Chamois stand and another massive stall later on for Safeway.  SAFEWAY people!!!! The Show has changed and in this world of mixing commercialism and capitalism it's created a festering cesspool of commercial products stuffing out indepedent unique items out the door. I didn't pay $20 to see what I can already see in any Shopping Centre.

Lest to say that we quickly moved on and found something a bit more suiting.

Hmmmm Crepes!

Berrylicious Crepes! Now this is better and it quickly removed my anger at seeing Safeway at the Show. I was a bit upset to see no Gozleme or Dutch Pancakes but the Suzuki Night Markets are back soon and that should satisfy me sufficiently.

The rest of the show was some inspections of some Alpaca's, Chickens, Birds, Ducks and some prize winning adorable doggies before we forked up some money for some Bertie Bettle Showbags and came home.

Maybe it was the crappy weather that contributed to a less than positive look at the Melbourne Show in 2009 but I don't know... Is this something I want to take my kids too when the time comes around? I should just take them to Westfield.

Magnum Coupon

Here's a quick tip for you, especially if your struggling to think of something special to do for your girlfriend or if your thinking of asking someone out on a date. Magnum is offering a free upgrade to Gold Class if you present the coupon with your Adult ticket. It extends to boxes of Magnums as well as original singles.

Pretty good deal huh? More so if you like Magnum ice-creams as much as I do.
