Guitar lessons

Marquez Guitar

I've had a guitar sitting in the corner of my room for a good two week now after I decievely borrowed one off a friend. I've wanted to learn since god knows how long ago but it's been something I've never bothered to persue and with one finally sitting next to me when I'm on the computer I constantly pick it up and try and get better.

It's actually lot harder to learn the guitar than I first thought. I'm really struggling with moving my fingers to change notes and constantly find myself resorting to single beats using my thumb. But using YouTube videos and online resources I can manage to pluck out a few tunes. They aren't very good but thats besides the point.

Where have I been?

Carey Ciuro is a hermit

Yes yes this site has been lacking in it's updates for the past few days but thats only because as I promised I've been catching up on all the gaming I've missed out on. I've already polished off Deep Space (Top game by the way!), Red Alert 3, Far Cry 2 and Operation Flashpoint 2. I've still got to get Call of Duty and GTA IV, but I'm thinking I should hold off until after exams.

It's become so bad I think about leaving outings early just so I can finish some games! What have I created?! Someone save me!

Building the unit

If you recall a few posts back I commented on both my outdated Vaio running on it's last legs and then it's inevitable demise and how I wanted to update my PC to something more 2009. So Suresh and I ventured down to Box Hill's MSY computer parts store to invest in $1100 worth of hardware so I can finally stop waiting 4 minutes for Photoshop to load or stop running games from 2007 on their lowest setting.

I'm glad to say that it was a success! I'm up and running with my dual Samsung monitors that I invested in last year and it's good to finally catch up on some long lost gaming.

3240x1040

It's sooooooooooooooooooooooo wide! Although one of my monitors has a colour issue that i'm not sure why is happening considering they are the same brand and model.

The Vista performance score reveals the awesomeness of my machine.

It's also good to be running brand new games on full spec.

Operation Flashpoint 2 Gameplay

It's just all so pretty. I've got a few games that I want to cross of my list that I've missed out on in the past few years, such as Far Cry 2, Crysis, GTA IV. Got any other game recommendations I should look at?

Anyway, here's a run down of the investment.

  • AMD AM3 Phenom II x 4 955 3.2Ghz - $258
  • Gigabyte GA-MA770T-UD3P DDR3 - $111
  • Patriot Signature 4GB Kit DDR3 1333 - $109
  • Galaxy GTX-275 896MB DDR3 - $278
  • Seagate SATA 500GB HDD - $59
  • Antec Earthwatts EA-650Watt PSU - $130
  • D-Link USB DWA-110 Wireless G - $32
  • Thermaltake V9 Case - $112
  • Pioneer SATA 218 DVDRW - $52

I didn't have to buy monitors, speakers, keyboards or a mouse as I already had all that but still that wouldn't bump up the cost that much. The problem is now that I want to invest in a G25 Logitech wheel so I can play games like GTR2 or GT Legends.

Overall I'm really happy with the investment. Now if you'll excuse me it's back to Operation Flashpoint 2.
