Mimi arrived for her second visit to Melbourne this morning. She is here for 4 days so time is short to show her a side of Melbourne we missed last time around. One of the things was a selection of Melbournes wide and diverse range of cuisine. Movida is as much a staple of that experience than anything else Melbourne has to offer. I have to admit I've never done Tapas without my hand being held by a Tapas veteran so I was a little nervous to escort Mimi through the doors and order for her.
Gladly, there's nothing to it. We put it to the waiter to bring us the Pollo Escabache Al Miguel, the Tortilla, a serving of Chirozo and the potent Queso Manchego cheese. Despite the deceptive portion sizing I think the pacing of how we ate caused this 'sample' of Movida to fill us up and satisfyingly so. It was a simple decision to finish with the Churros which despite a strong dose of cinnamon, probably a traditional Spanish touch, were quickly devoured by the two of us.
It doesn't surprise me at all that this place is so popular, the bar is excellent and deeply stocked but the food is the real reason you come here. If I had a few more cultured friends and a few more city visits, I'm sure I'd be a regular too.
